A Message from our Chairwoman
Dear Homeschooling friends and family.
Many of you have heard about the Second District Court of Appeals recent ruling on Homeschooling and may be wondering what, if anything, you should do to support your homeschooling situation. I would like to encourage you to reflect on the words of Jesus, “Fear is useless. What is needed is trust…” (Luke 8:50) The response to troubling situations for us as Christians is prayer. It is in prayer, when we gaze into the face of Jesus that we will find peace. I John 4:18 tells us that “Love has no room for fear; rather perfect love casts out all fear.” As we bring our concerns to Jesus, as we praise Him for who He is, as we look into His loving face, we will find peace. “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Have faith in God and faith in me.” (John 14:1)
I encourage everyone to be educated about the situation so as to respond to family and friends who ask. It is encouraging that both our Governor, Arnold Schwartzenegger and our Superintendent of Public Instruction, Jack O'Connell, have come out in favor of parents rights to homeschool. The Home School Legal Defense Association, California Homeschool Network and other leaders in the homeschooling community are working together to address this issue. I urge you to support their efforts.
HSLDA is asking everyone who supports homeschooling to sign a petition asking the court to depublish the opinion. See their website for more information.
Laura Berquist, the Director of Mother of Divine Grace School, has suggested that we all pray the Divine Mercy Novena beginning Good Friday for this intention. I encourage you to join in this prayer intention for our homeschooling community.
